Our Ambition

GTR is the biggest train operator in the country, running circa 4000 trains per day delivering 326 million passenger journeys per year. We are an evolving organisation, we focus on our people, safety and On Time performance to ultimately deliver a great service to our customers.

To help deliver our vision we have recently established a new programme that has an absolute focus on the critical activities that enable us to deliver an On Time railway.  This ranges from delivering brilliant basics,  technology change, communications and culture through to detailed analysis and understanding of our On Time starts at key stations, forensically unpicking the causes of performance attrition.

To drive progress, we have created a new role that spans the entire GTR organisation. Working with the Network Operations Director and Head of Performance, the new Head of On Time Railway will be accountable for driving improvements through the business, working collaboratively to get things done and help deliver a metronomic train service – on time. We are looking for a motivated, curious, and customer driven individual with the ability to view things strategically as well as being able to dig into detail when needed.

Accountabilities and Behaviours

  • Development of the pan GTR/NR plans that will deliver cross organisation focal point improvements
  • Lead the On Time workstream within GTR and Network Rail by being the champion and voice of this key business priority
  • Through excellent leadership deliver sustained improvements in punctuality and reliability
  • Be a champion for change with a drive to deliver ambitious plans
  • Have the ability to build and deliver through others, a roadmap of improvement activities to achieve targets
  • Be a role model for continuous improvement finding new and innovative ways to deliver change working across Network Rail, GTR and other operators
  • Have the customer at the heart of all activities constantly thinking and asking ‘what does this mean to customers’
  • Share best practice with the industry

This role requires a unique blend of experience/knowledge, skills and behaviours.  The successful Candidate will have:

  • An in-depth knowledge of how the railway works
  • The ability to establish governance structures that set out accountabilities and monitor progress against plans
  • Demonstrable experience of programme management that drives delivery and behaviour change including Plan Do Review in an established industry
  • Excellent knowledge of general business processes and organisational frameworks, such as goals, strategy, culture and structure
  • Great networking sills, and an ability to elicit confidence in every level of colleague across the business
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to communicate complex information
  • A proven leadership skills with a strong background in influencing and stakeholder management
