About Govia Thameslink Railway

Not sure which area of our business you'd like to work in?

No problem!

Work experience is a great way to get an understanding of a role and see what a working day looks like and we have many programmes to choose from.

We open our doors for work experience every year to look for our stars of the future and this year it will be between April and July.  We are the largest train operating company in the UK with more passengers, more people and more trains than anyone else in the country and you can come and spend a week or two in an area of your choice.  Make sure you can get to your chosen location within 90 minutes at the most.

Below are the programmes on offer for London and Thameslink routes north.

Stations – 1 week programme

Are you a people person?  Why not try a week visiting some of our busiest stations in London and along the Bedford line to see how a station runs and the different roles involved.  Take a look at how technology is being used to enhance the passenger experience.  Would you be able to help someone on their journey by planning their route or ensuring the train is dispatched correctly?

Engineering, Hornsey Depot – 1 week programme

Engineering is a major part of our business, so if you like to know how things work; take them apart and put them back together again, then maybe the engineering life is for you.  You will find out about a unit’s full life cycle when it is not in service.  The importance of maintaining, tracking and looking after our fleet on a daily basis.

Shunters, Various Depots and Sidings – 1 week programme

If you are interested in what happens to our trains at depot before and after the engineers see them, then this is for you.  Our Shunters play a big part in the day to day operation of our depots.  They look after the yard, prepare and dispatch the trains and communicate with different departments to let them know what is happening with the units.  You will visit depots and sidings the see how things are handled by our dedicated crew.

When completing the application form, if it asks for your National Insurance number and you do not have one yet, please type in NB 000000B
