 Purpose of the Internal Communications Partner

 A strategic thought leader in the specialist field of Internal Communications and having a passion for providing expert narration to a multifaceted organisation are important qualities the right individual needs to possess for this role.  

 The ability to develop strategy, framework and approaches that are right for the business context and support diverse business units will need a unique blend of working with tradition together with an ability to influence, challenge convention and create effective communications fit for the modern day.   You will be an important influencer working within the Employee Experience Team who will play a crucial role in leading the people agenda across organisation and whose ambition is to be recognised and celebrated as a people centre of excellence within industry and beyond.  Leading a team of people to build and develop Internal Communications talent and capability is also critical to the success of this role.  You will be the guiding mind in the development of the GTR story and narration and use insight to continuously develop our approaches, enabling a culture change through the through work you do, delivering a New Rail Way.

 Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead in the development and delivery of an Internal Communications (IC) strategy and approach that is hardwired across the GTR organisation
  • Champion excellent partnership working with all key internal stakeholders ensuring two way intelligence is gathered and delivered
  • Lead and develop a team of confident and capable IC professionals to provide relevant and expert narration to a diverse set of populations across GTR
  • Establish the Head of Employee Experience team as a people centre of excellence for communications and engagement both within and external to the organisation
  • Bring new and innovative communication methods and approaches to challenge convention
  • Use insight to exploit and enable all channels of communication
  • Provide the IC expertise across all change projects, acting as the central communications conscience

 Key Deliverables

  • A comprehensive and innovative IC strategy and approach developed, delivered and embedded within the organisation
  • A fully established competent and capable team of IC professionals led well and delivering all aspects of the IC strategy and approach
  • A constant stream of impactful narration provided across GTR via various channels, mechanisms and forums
  • The on-going effectiveness of IC channels, methods and forums reviewed using insight from data sources and two way feedback
  • Effective relationships with all key internal partners in place and recognised as the IC expert in the business
  • The source for all key communications messages and resource 
  • Deliver culture change through a year on year improvement in employee engagement metrics relating to IC measured through the employee survey

  • Professional Qualification in Public Relations and/or Communications
