We are recruiting for Rail Neighbourhood Officers to provide a professional uniformed presence on board trains and at stations. As a Rail Neighbourhood Officer you will work in conjuction with both contracted Security Staff and British Transport Police Officers to deter crime and anti social behaviour and provide outstandinging levels of customer service to passengers whilst supporting Southern staff as required.
Rail Neighbourhood Officers will assist with crowd control and respond to emergencies, providing support where required to the police and other emergency services. You will ensure compliance with Criminal Law, the Conditions of Carriage and the railway byelaws by people on the railway, minimising fare evasion and supporting other team members in their responsibilities. Act as authorised collector within the Southern Penality Fare Schemean issue tickets to travel as well as issuing Penality Notices for Disorder and Fixed Penality Notices in accordance with the law.
Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate some, if not all of the below requirements;
- Previous experience handling cash
- Evidence of being able to deal with a high level of customer contact
- Be able to pass British Transport Police vetting process
- Ability to remain calm, stable and in control when challenged and comfortable dealing with challenging situations.
