Our Ambition

GTR is the biggest train operator in the country, running circa 4000 trains per day delivering 326 million passenger journeys per year. As an evolving organisation, we focus on people, safety and On Time performance to ultimately deliver a great service to our customers.

To help deliver our vision we are working as part of the national PIMS (Performance Improvement Management System) programme to improve the way we deliver On Time performance. Taking a systematic approach this role will work with stakeholders from across the entire GTR organisation including our Network Rail colleagues to identify and implement ways to deliver and embed change. The principal approach will be the application of the RM3P maturity model whereby operational teams are engaged to complete self-assessments and subsequently carry out action plans.

The PIMS programme is in the formative stages and we have a real appetite to progress it, therefore a new role has been created within the Joint Performance Team. We are looking for a motivated, proactive, and methodical person who is comfortable working across all levels and functions of our organisation. The role suits someone with experience in project management, change management and continuous improvement methodologies.

Accountabilities and behaviours

  • Assist the development and delivery of the PIMS programme across the GTR network
  • Utilise the RM3P maturity model to strengthen performance behaviours within operational teams
  • Through excellent leadership and influencing, deliver sustained developments that achieve improvements in punctuality, reliability and performance culture
  • Be a advocate for change with a drive to deliver aspiring plans across multiple organisations underpinned by strong governance
  • Build and deliver through others, a roadmap of improvement action to achieve targets
  • Be a role model for continuous improvement finding innovative and new ways to deliver change across Network Rail and GTR

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

The job demands the following blend of experience/knowledge, skills and behaviours (all are essential, unless otherwise shown and will be assessed by application and/or interview/assessment):

  • Proven capability delivering complex business change
  • Demonstrable experience of project management that drives delivery and behaviour change including continuous improvement in an established industry
  • Ability to work to a governance structure, can set out accountabilities and monitor progress against plan
  • Knowledge of general business processes and organisational frameworks, such as policies, strategy, culture and structure
  • A great networker, and an ability to elicit trust in every level of colleague across the business
  • Ability to adapt tactical problems to deliver a strategic approach to performance improvement
  • Has knowledge of how the railway works (preferable, but not essential)
